Miguel’s ‘Adorn’ Becomes His Third No. 1

(Billboard) R&B singer Miguel lands himself another No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs song as “Adorn,” the Greatest Gainer/Airplay recipient, tip-toes up 2-1 (up 29% in audience impressions according to Nielsen BDS). The cut — the first single from his upcoming second album Kaleidoscope Dream (due Oct. 2) — is his third topper on the survey and his second as a lead artist.

In addition to his feat, Miguel is one of only three acts to have multiple No. 1s this year following Drake (with three) and 2 Chainz (two). Among the radio stations helping push “Adorn’s” gain this week are WWPR New York (1.7 million in audience), WVEE Atlanta (1.7 million) and WGCI Chicago (1.6 million).

Miguel’s “Adorn” replaces “No Lie,” the first lead No. 1 from 2 Chainz featuring Drake. The song’s tiny dip in overall points (2%) against “Adorn” and its huge jump brings it down to No. 2. Usher’s “Lemme See” is up one to No. 3 and continues to flip-flop around the top five since July. Trey  Songz’s “Heart Attack” also continues to hang out near the top, as it rises 6-4 with a nice 6% inflation.

Future’s “Turn On The Lights” reaches a new peak with a 7-5 lift. The song saw a 13% jump in audience, totaling 20 million in audience impressions (up from 18 million.) This is the rapper’s highest charting position on the tally since his first appearance as a featured artist on the unforgettable “Racks” by YC.

Another song in the top 10 to reach its peak is “Pop That,” the hip-thrusting, butt-bopping tune by French Montana which features Rick Ross, Drake and Lil Wayne. Like “Turn On The Lights,” the track also celebrates its highest peak. Moving slightly upward going 9-8, the title receives a 10% gain bringing its audience number to 18 million.

Over on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, Frank Ocean makes waves once again with his debut album and former No. 1, ‘Channel Orange’. Following his performance of its “Thinkin Bout You” on the MTV Video Music Awards, the set earns its Greatest Gainer stripes, jumping 11-4 with 14,000 sold (up 60%) according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The album was the biggest selling set among all VMA performers last week, in addition to earning the largest percentage increase. “Thinkin About You” jumped a whopping 373% in sales — moving 55,000 downloads (up 373%). The song explodes on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs chart as well, rising 31-4. In turn, it also earns Greatest Gainer/Digital honours on the Billboard Hot 100, moving 78-39. It immediately becomes his biggest hit yet on the tally, surpassing the No. 72 peak of “No Church in the Wild” (Jay-Z and Kanye West featuring Ocean).

Next week’s charts will see impact from Ocean’s debut on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” (Sept. 15).

Although down in sales by 13%, 2 Chainz’s ‘Based On A T.R.U. Story’ returns to No. 1 (26,000) after a short stay below it. That’s due to Trey Songz’s ‘Chapter V’ declining 43% (holding at No. 2 with 24,000 sold), letting 2 Chainz return to the top. Rounding out the top five is Slaughterhouse’s former No. 1 ‘Welcome To: Our House’, slipping 1-5, losing 74% of steam (13,000).
