Indian Cultural Centre screens My Name is Khan

The Indian Cultural Centre screens the Karan Johar film My Name is Khan, this afternoon from 5.30 pm at its Lot 67 New Haven, Bel Air, Georgetown premises.
According to a press release, the film tells the story of Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) a Muslim, who grew up with his brother Zakir (Jimmy Shergill) and his mother Razia Khan (Zarina Wahab) in Mumbai.

Rizwan is different from other children, however. He has certain gifts, particularly a special ability to repair mechanical things. This is later diagnosed as Aspergers Syndrome.

He moves to the USA and meets and marries a Hindu woman Mandira (Kajol). Their lives in the US are disrupted by the September 11 2001 attacks, and they
begin to experience the prejudice in their communities. Further tragedy results in a separation from Mandira, and imprisonment forRizwan whose appeal “My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist” is misunderstood by the FBI.

The 2010 film won several awards and it was made more realistic when Shahrukh Khan was detained at the Newark Airport for questioning, when he was on a tour to promote the film.

The public is invited and admission is free.
