T&T man gunned down in front of daughters

(Trinidad Express) Gunmen stormed the house of a Housing Development Company employee yesterday afternoon and shot him dead, as his two daughters looked on.

The victim, Dexter McDonnell, 35, was at his Eastern Quarry, Laventille, home with his daughters, ages eight and five, around 2 p.m. when two gunmen entered.

They opened fire, killing him on the spot.

Neighbours who heard the gunshots called the police.

A team of officers from the Besson Street Police Station responded first, followed by officers from the Crime Scene Unit.

About three hours after the police arrived, the body was removed to the Port of Spain Mortuary.

Up to last night, however, no-one in the community had anything to say about McDonnell or his murder.

They gathered and talked among themselves, but a resident later whispered to the Express they did not want to be seen talking to any media people as they feared for their own lives since the gunmen remain at large.

Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.

The murder toll stood at 99 up to last night, according to an Express tally. The toll on March 24 last year was 86.
