Trinidad mother of three shot dead

(Trinidad Express) TWO women were shot about the body early yesterday morning resulting in the death of one, a mother of three.

Police said Afisha Dyer, 21, and her neighbour Nikisha Elliot, 33, were playing a game of cards with neighbours near Dyer’s home at the side of the road when three masked men approached the women.

One of them was armed with a firearm, another with a cutlass.

The man with the firearm shot the women several times while the others ran.

All three escaped in a waiting vehicle.

The shooting took place at around 2 a.m.

Dyer lived at Samuel Cooper Road, St Mary’s Village, Moruga with her extended family.

She was unemployed. Her three children are aged five, three and one.

Both women were rushed to the Princes Town District Health Facility by family members.

Dyer died while undergoing emergency treatment.

Mahalia Cooper, the victim’s mother, said her younger daughter Kizzy Dyer has been missing since the shooting.

She was one of those liming with the group and had run away when the shooting started.

Up to late yesterday evening, no one had information about her whereabouts.

Cooper said she did not know why anyone would want to kill her daughter and she was now left with the responsibility of taking care of her three grandchildren.

Dyer’s aunt Tanisha George said: “Everybody was outside liming. When she got shot, we took her to the hospital. That was where she died. She got shot in her chest.”

Police said they do not know why the women were shot.

Acting Sergeant Ramdial is spearheading investigations.
