Coalition hosts reflection on 1823 revolt at Parade Ground

The Coalition of the 1823 Parade Ground Monument has organised ‘An afternoon of reflection and knowledge-sharing’ today at the Parade Ground, Georgetown.

It will commence at 12:00 hrs and last approximately three hours.

According to a press release, Guyanese historians and cultural workers will gather to interact with the public to commence a process to fill the knowledge gaps in Guyanese history as they relate to the resistance of African people used as slaves on the British plantations in Guyana, with special spotlight on the Demerara Revolt of 1823.

The session will be interactive and include dramatic readings.

Our African ancestors will be honoured through a libation, the release also stated. Refreshments will be on sale.
