Former Rose Hall mayor, wife battered and robbed

Former mayor of Rose Hall town William Hendrax, 81, and his 79-year-old wife Veronica were brutally beaten during a robbery at their Williamsburg, Corentyne home two days before Christmas last year.

According to the family, the police have not charged anyone and claim the investigation is ongoing.

According to the couple’s son Errol Hendrax, an overseas-based Guyanese, on December 23, 2012 some time around 1.30 am three men broke and entered the home of Hendrax aka “Papee” and his wife Veronica Hendrax called “Aunty Verone”, brutally beat the couple and demanded cash and jewellery.

The elderly couple was alone when the incident occurred.
The younger Hendrax added that, the bandits escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery after the approximately 30 minutes ordeal.

Some time later, Mrs Hendrax was able to contact her daughter who works at Albion and she took her parents to the hospital and made a report to the police.

The home invasion has severely traumatized the couple, according to the younger Hendrax. He said his mother has been hospitalized ever since.

He added that she spent four days in the St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Georgetown and is currently a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital where she is in a very critical but stable condition.
Meanwhile the former mayor is trying to cope with the devastating incident.
