Lyken’s hearse held at gunpoint, workers robbed

A Lyken Funeral Home hearse was yesterday afternoon set upon by armed robbers as it exited Le Repentir cemetery.
The two men in the vehicle, a porter and driver, were on their way back to work when the incident occurred.

An employee of  the Lyken Funeral Home located in Norton Street Georgetown, told Stabroek News that while the men are relieved to be alive they are still confused as to why anyone would rob them, moreso at gunpoint.

He said that as the hearse drove slowly from one of the cemetery’s roads the two armed men stopped it and relieved the employees of their cell phones and $80 they had.

The robbers then escaped on foot and the employees went back to Lyken’s and in the company of others returned to the area to see if the men were still there. However there was no trace of the robbers.

“In all my life at this parlour and anywhere for that matter I have never heard of a hearse being robbed. What is really happening in this place?” the man asked rhetorically.

A report was made to the police who are investigating.
