Soldier dies during fitness run

A twenty-eight-year-old soldier of the Guyana Defence Force died this morning after complaining of chest pains during his Annual Fitness Run, the army said today.

Lance Corporal Eon Blair of 305 Number Fifty-One Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was participating in the five-mile run with other members of his unit when he experienced chest pains in the vicinity of the Umana Yana on High Street. The GDF said that he was immediately placed into the accompanying ambulance and taken to the Force’s Medical Centre in Camp Ayanganna, then subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he died.

Lance Corporal Blair was a serving member for nine years, having enlisted in 2004.
