Another regional branch of the National School of Dance has been set up, this time in Region Six (East Berbice/ Corentyne).

The Government Information Agency said that on Friday, the Region 6 programme was officially declared open by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony at the Vryman’s Erven training centre.

Anthony said, according to GINA,  that the Ministry will be working with the region on a number of areas such as drama and dance.

The Region Six dance school will be operating in similar vein to the National School of Dance in Georgetown where there will be lessons on techniques and choreography. Students will be instructed on contemporary, Indian, African, Guyanese and Caribbean dances, among others.

Teachers are currently engaged in training, and in July there will be a production at the National Culture Centre (NCC) where all the various dance schools will present their talent.

Currently 25 students are involved in the Region Six dance programme, GINA said.
