Public-spirited citizens arrest Blackberry thief

A man, who last evening snatched a BlackBerry Torch from a young lady on Church Street, was caught by public-spirited citizens before he could escape and handed over to the police.

He was taken into custody at the Alberttown Police Station.

This newspaper was told that around 7.15 last evening, the young woman was walking along Church Street when she was approached from behind by the man who quickly snatched her phone and ran.

However, he was just as quickly apprehended by two men who were standing on a bridge not far away and had witnessed the entire incident.
When Stabroek News arrived at the Albertown Police Station the thief, who appeared to be in his teens, was being escorted by police officers to a back entrance, while the victim was providing a statement.
