Huckster on $25,000 bail over assault on cop

A huckster accused of assaulting a police officer was yesterday released on $25,000 bail and placed on a bond to keep the peace, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on January 29, at Croal Street, Georgetown, Shawn Small, 39, assaulted Police Constable Kevin James, who was acting in the execution of his duties.

Small, who resides at Howes Street, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

No details of what occurred on the day in question were related in court.
When asked if there were any objections to the defendant being granted bail, the prosecution responded in the negative.
After listening to submissions, the magistrate granted the defendant’s pre-trial liberty in the sum of $25,000 and he was placed on a bond to keep the peace.
