267 other ranks promoted in army

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has announced the promotions of 267 “Other Ranks” effective from January 1 this year.
In a statement issued on Friday, the GDF said 101 “Other Ranks” were confirmed in their rank, while another 166 were elevated in rank.

“The soldiers were promoted through ranks ranging from Acting Warrant Officer Class Two to Acting Lance Corporal and the list includes36 ranks from the Coast Guard,” it said, while adding that those who have been confirmed in rank have been appointed to “substantive” rank after previously holding the “acting” rank.

According to the statement, the promoted ranks include a Local Warrant Officer Class Two and four Substantive Staff Sergeants, who were elevated in rank to Acting Warrant Officer Class Two; two Acting Staff Sergeants confirmed in their rank as Substantive Staff Sergeants; a Local Sergeant was promoted to Acting Staff Sergeant/Substantive Staff Sergeant; 11 Substantive Sergeants promoted to Acting Staff Sergeant; seven Acting Sergeants confirmed as Substantive Sergeants; two Local Sergeants and 20 Substantive Corporals elevated in rank to Acting Sergeant; 35 Acting Corporals confirmed as Substantive Corporal; an acting Corporal promoted to Substantive Lance/Acting Corporal/Substantive Corporal; three Local Corporals and 49 Substantive Lance Corporals elevated in rank to Acting Corporal; 31 Acting Lance Corporals confirmed as Substantive Lance Corporal; three Privates promoted to Acting Lance Corporal/Substantive Lance Corporal; and 61 Privates elevated in rank to Acting Lance Corporal.

For the Coast Guard, the GDF said three Substantive Leading Ratings were elevated in rank to Acting Petty Officer; an Acting Leading Rating was confirmed as Substantive Leading Rating; seven Substantive Able ratings were elevated to Acting Leading Rating; four Acting Able Ratings were confirmed as Substantive Able Rating; two Ordinary Ratings were promoted to Acting Able Rating/Substantive Able Rating; and 18 Ordinary Ratings were elevated to Acting Able Rating.

Chief-of-Staff Gary Best extended congratulations to all the promoted soldiers, the GDF added, while noting that the promotion of officers is to be announced shortly.
