Man slapped girlfriend over money for cocaine -court hears

A father of four was yesterday refused bail and remanded to prison after he was charged with unlawful assault when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Keith Tuesday, 43, is that on February 2, at Orange Walk Bourda he unlawfully assaulted Waynie La Rose.

Tuesday, who resides at Lot 1 North Road, was unrepresented by counsel and pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Police prosecutor Denise Booker told the court that Tuesday and La Rose are involved in a relationship. She said that around 11pm on the day of the incident, La Rose went to visit Tuesday and he asked her for money to buy cocaine, but she refused to give it to him. Booker said he then got upset, dealt La Rose a slap and picked a cutlass and lashed her
on the hip.

The matter was reported and the accused was arrested.

Tuesday, who was crying out for pain, told the court that he does not use cocaine. He told the court that he was unwell and has been unable to receive his medication since he is in prison.

The prosecution objected to bail, stating that the defendant had another matter before the court where an arrest warrant was issued for him.

The magistrate, after listening to submissions, refused to grant Tuesday bail and remanded him to prison.

Magistrate Lovell also requested that Tuesday receive medical attention.
He will make his next court appearance on February 18.
