Two years jail for duo found guilty of robbing store

Two men were yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment each, after they were found guilty of burglary and simple larceny by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.

Osafa Denard and Derrick Norton, on January 19, 2012 broke and entered the business establishment of Krishna Singh, located on Cornhill Street, and stole a quantity of articles.

On the day in question at about 3.10 am, the police received information that two men had broken into a store. The police responded and caught the two accused in the store. They were apprehended and taken to the Brickdam Police Station.

When the two men first appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, they pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail in the sum of $100,000 each.

The trial was then transferred to Magistrate Lovell’s court where Police Prosecutor Denise Booker represented the prosecution and called several witnesses who testified against the two unrepresented defendants.
