Mason on ganja trafficking charge remanded

A mason was yesterday remanded to prison after he was arraigned before Magistrate Leslie Sobers on a charge of having marijuana in his possession.

It was alleged that on February 26, in the vicinity of the Timehri Police Station, Tyrone Jones, 25, of Ruimveldt, had 28.3 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Jones pleaded not guilty to the offence when the charge was read to him at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.

No details of how he was allegedly found with the cannabis were given to the court, but the prosecution asked that Jones be remanded since there was no special reason for him to be granted his pre-trial liberty and it also claimed that he may pose a flight risk.

Jones was remanded until March 8, when the case is to be called for reports and fixtures.
