Brazilian woman shot in Regent St robbery

Police say that at about 1440h today, Brazilian national Marcia Maria Martins, 45 years, of Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, was in front of a store on Regent Street when she was attacked by a man who was armed with a handgun.

Police say that the perpetrator held on to her handbag and a scuffle ensued during which she was shot and injured to her left thigh.  She has been admitted to the GPHC for medical treatment.

The armed man escaped with the bag which contained $70,000.00 and a quantity of gold jewellery on a motor cycle driven by an accomplice.

Investigations are in progress, police said.
