National Assembly to sit on Thursday

Clerk of the National Assembly Sherlock Isaacs has announced that the National Assembly will meet on Thursday, March 14 to resume the debate on APNU Member of Parliament’s private members bill – the Fiscal Management and Accountability (Amendment) Bill 2013.

“I wish to inform that the [Speaker of the National Assembly] has appointed Thursday 14th March 2013, at 2 pm, for the holding of the 39th sitting of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Guyana to resume of the debate on the Fiscal Management and Accountability (Amendment) Bill 2013 – Bill No. 5 of 2013 and to, thereafter, proceed with the other items listed on the Order Paper,” said the Clerk.

At the previous sitting on February 14, Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman had to end the sitting prematurely following his unheeded repeated warnings to the House for order. The House got uncontrollable after heckling and comments from both sides erupted as Government MP Bishop Juan Edghill was speaking on the Bill.

The Speaker ended the sitting and bade MPs goodnight as the noise from both sides grew louder. According to the Clerk on that night, the Speaker was allowed by the Standing Orders to adjourn a sitting without putting to the floor whatever is being considered, if there is a rowdy situation as had been the case.
