Teen grazed by bullet in Sophia

An 18-year-old Sophia teen yesterday afternoon escaped serious injury and possible death when a bullet grazed the right side of his face while he was making his way home.

Abdool Cort of Lot 960 Section `B’ South Sophia is currently receiving treatment at the Georgetown Hospital. His face is badly swollen but his condition is listed as stable. The incident occurred just before 5 pm.

Cort’s uncle, Colinker Cort said he received a telephone call informing him that the teen, who lives with him, had been shot and was at the hospital. However, when he arrived at the institution he was told that the doctors were attending to him.

Later, he said, he managed to speak to the teen who told him that he was on his motorbike which was being driven by his friend when he felt a burning on the right side of his face and fell off the motorcycle.

The teen said that the shot came from a “blue and white” vehicle.

The elder Cort told Stabroek News that the friend, who is a policeman, was also grazed and had gone to report the incident.

He said his nephew has since asked him “to go far with this cause he coulda dead”.

Stabroek News was unable to reach police officials for information on the shooting.
