Medicinal ganja earns man community service, fine

A man’s claim that he uses marijuana to treat his illness failed to find favour with Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who fined him $3,000 and ordered that he do six months community service when he appeared before her on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Linden Greene admitted that on February 7, at Waterloo Street, he had in his possession two grammes of cannabis, which he indicated to the magistrate that he uses for medicinal purposes.

Greene was fined $3,000 together with six months community service and will have to report to the Ruimveldt Police Station starting Monday at 9am.
