Deaf Association elects 2013 executive committee

Sabine McIntosh was returned as president of the Deaf Association of Guyana (DAG) when it held its second annual general meeting on March 10.

The other members of the new executive committee are Vice President Quincy Richards; Secretary Dionne McKenzie; Treasurer Charmayne Martin; Assistant Secretary-Treasurer Nicola Collymore and committee members, Shawna Estwick, Jerimiah Williams and James Williams.

Meanwhile, the DAG took the opportunity of the occasion to present representatives of the three recently formed student deaf clubs – David Rose, Diamond and New Amsterdam – with collections of games. These games were purchased with proceeds from last year’s cultural show at the National Cultural Centre ‘Tales and Legends of Guyana’.

DAG is planning its first inter-school competition. Some of the games will include chess, scrabble and Chinese checkers. The competition is scheduled for May.

Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport had recently donated chess sets to the clubs.
