West Ruimveldt man shot in groin

West Ruimveldt resident Demal McNeil was on Sunday night shot in his groin after he was approached by two men on bicycles; one of whom was armed with a gun.

A police press release stated that about 22:50 hrs, McNeil was on the roadway at Laing Avenue, Georgetown, when two men rode up on a bicycle, one of whom shot him to his groin.

The release added that the injured man was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical treatment.

When Stabroek News visited the hospital yesterday, an associate of McNeil, who did not want to be named, said he learnt from eyewitnesses that his friend was in the company of two other persons at the time of the attack.

He was unable to say exactly what happened on Sunday but suggested that the shooting may have been a robbery attempt, since the area is a prime spot for the crime.

This newspaper was unable to speak to McNeil as he was asleep. A nurse at the male surgical ward where McNeil is a patient said he was given an injection to ease the excruciating pain.

An investigation has since been launched.
