Man refused bail over simple larceny

A man who asked the magistrate to be lenient, and grant him bail was yesterday remanded to prison on a simple larceny charge.

It is alleged that on March 9, at Laluni Street, Queenstown, Ricardo De France stole a television valued $60,000, a blender valued $45,000, a purse valued $5,000 and $34,000 all totaling $144,000, property of Shanti Venkatsammi.

De France who was unrepresented by counsel pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.

Facts about what had transpired on the day in question were not related to the court.

The matter was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar and she objected to him being granted bail, stating that the accused has other matters before the court.

He was refused bail and his matter will be called again on March 20.
