Man jailed for six months after spade attack

Orlando Simpson has been sentenced to a six-month jail term after he pleaded guilty to a wounding another man with a spade.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry handed down the sentence yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where Simpson was charged with the March 12 wounding of Rudolph McKenzie at Camp Street.

Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick stated that Simpson struck McKenzie on his head with a spade, causing injuries. Simpson’s medical certificate was shown to the court to prove his injuries.

Simpson, who was unrepresented by an attorney, admitted to the court that he committed the offence.

He noted that he was never convicted before.
He was subsequently sentenced to serve a six-month prison sentence.
