An East Ruimveldt man and a juvenile accused of stealing a Coral cellular phone from a woman were yesterday remanded when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on March 20, at Waterloo Street, George-town, Wendell Austin, 18, of 164 East Ruimveldt and the juvenile, along with others allegedly robbed Abiola Humphrey of her cellular phone, valued $5,000.
The duo, who appeared in court without counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
Police Corporal Denise Booker told the court that on the day in question, around 5.43pm, Humphrey was walking along Waterloo Street in the avenue, when the two accused along with another person accosted her and told her to shut up. The youngster then thrust his hand into the woman’s pocket and took her phone.
Booker further related that public-spirited citizens assisted the woman to apprehend the two accused and they were taken to the police station and charged. The phone was recovered.
The prosecutor asked the court to deny bail based on the seriousness of the offence and the punishment it attracts if the two accused are found guilty.
The court remanded them to prison and ordered them to return to court on April 22.
