Man assaults wife after she told him to eat bread

Magistrate Sueanna Lovell on Wednesday sentenced a Linden man to three months jail after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife because she told him that she did not have rice to cook and that he should eat bread instead.

The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that on March 20, at Linden, Clement Allicock unlawfully assaulted Diane Marks.

Police Corporal Denise Booker told the court that Allicock and Marks live together. On the day in question, Allicock went home and asked Marks why she did not cook. Marks told the defendant that she had no rice and asked him to eat bread. He became annoyed and used a series of expletives against her while assaulting her.

Booker related that Allicock, after assaulting Marks, told her to stand in front of him and explain why she did not cook. She said that Marks escaped and reported the matter to the police.

Marks informed the court that her husband had previously assaulted her but it never became physical until now.
