Food for the Poor donates shoes to several schools

Food For the Poor Guyana Inc has donated 3000 pairs of shoes to several schools to ensure that their students are properly shod in the new school term.

In a press release the charity said the shoes were given to six primary and one nursery school. The recipients are the Sophia, Enterprise, East La Penitence and Tucville primary schools in Georgetown; Tapakuma Primary in Region Two, Beterverwagting Primary and Enmore/Newtown Nursery, East Coast Demerara.

Food for the Poor said the shoes were donated after it had been informed that a number of school children were not properly attired when attending school, particularly as it relates to wearing the recommended black shoes.

The donation was welcomed by the schools. Head teacher at the Tucville Primary School, Audrey Sue, thanked the organisation for recognising and responding to this need. She opined that the donation would contribute significantly to an increase in school attendance.

The charity has identified and is working with several other schools in regions Five and Six to provide similar assistance, the press release said.
