Former Education Minister Dr Dale Bisnauth passes away

Former Education Minister Dale Bisnauth passed away today following a heart attack. He was 76. He had been taken to the Caribbean Heart Institute where he passed away.

Bisnauth became Minister of Education in 1992 on the accession of the PPP/C to office. In recent years Reverend Bisnauth had been the Chairman of the Board of Industrial Training. A moment of silence was this afternoon observed in parliament as a mark of respect.

The Ministry of Education today lauded his contribution. In a statement, it said:

“The Minister of Education, Hon. Priya Manickchand and officers and Staff of the Ministry of Education would like to express sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Dr. Dale Bisnauth, Former Minister of Education.

With the passing of Reverend Dr. Bisnauth, Guyana has lost a good son who lived his life in service and whose love for humanity manifested itself in tangible contributions to our dear Guyana and her people.

Several successful initiatives in the Education sector can be credited to the Former Minister of Education including the implementation of the Primary Education Improvement Project, the design and implementation of the Secondary School Reform Project, the initiation of the Basic Education Access to Management Support Programme, implementation of Desk Manuals for senior managers at the School, Regional and National levels, and the introduction of Board Management at the Cyril Potter of Education, Senior Secondary Schools and Technical Institutions.
Dr. Dale Bisnauth served as Minister of Education from October 1992 to March 2001.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and indeed with all of Guyana at this time. ”
