Scotiabank and Habitat for Humanity have raised $216,000 one month after partnering on an initiative to build a home for a widowed mother of two.
Of the sum, over $80,000 was donated by two private donors, a press release said. The donation will be used to build a home for Amanda Anthony and her children, after Habitat identified her as being in urgent need of a home.
This innovative and exciting campaign which started in March, “seeks to involve customers, employees, the public, and other stakeholders in one of the Bank’s major Bright Future philanthropic initiatives.”
Through the Scotiabank/Habitat ‘Build a Home’ promotion, Scotiabank will donate to Habitat for Humanity Guyana Inc, a percentage of the value of Scotia plan loans, auto loans and mortgages applied for and disbursed between March 1, 2013 and October 31, 2013.
According to the release, customers will get a chance to win gift certificates for loan instalments, jewellery, hardware, spa treatments, groceries, electronics and clothing as they will be entered into quarterly draws. At the time of disbursing the loan proceeds, customers will receive entry coupons commensurate with the amount of the disbursement. The first draw is set for Sunday, June 9 at the Parika branch from 11 am.
Employees will also be integrally involved in the initiative by volunteering to help build the home, the release said.
Persons interested in donating towards building a home for Anthony, without taking a loan can do so directly at Habitat for Humanity Guyana. If the target is reached before the promotion ends, Habitat will identify another beneficiary and the remaining sum will go towards that family.
The public will be kept informed of the sums donated through monthly print advertisements and press releases.
