Man charged over ‘Bruck Up Landing’ murder

Twenty-year old Trevor Williams who allegedly killed a man by shooting him in the head was remanded to prison when he appeared before
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on April 4, at Bruck Up Landing, North West District, Williams of Kamwatta, Aruka River, murdered Randy Raphael.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him. He was later escorted out of the court by a policeman.
The case was transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court for May 21.

Prosecutor Seon Blackman stated that Williams and Raphael were known to each other. He said that on the day in question at about 21:30hrs, they were both in a building at Bruck Up Landing consuming alcohol.

Sometime after, the accused got annoyed and picked up a handgun and shot Raphael in the head, Blackman stated. He said that after the incident Williams went into hiding but turned himself into the police on April 15.

Attorney-at-law Hukumchand who represented Williams told the court that his facts are contrary to what the prosecution has submitted.
Hukumchand stated that his client had found the gun and was playing with it and in the process of opening the gun a round went off, hitting Raphael. Counsel said that he intends to write the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for the office to review the file.
