Kitty bus driver wounded in drive-by shooting

A Kitty bus driver is nursing a gunshot wound in the abdomen at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was attacked yesterday morning.

Up to press time last evening, Rabindra Samaroo, 26, of Owen Street, Kitty was said to be in a stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

According to a police press release, Samaroo was shot to the abdomen as he was standing at the intersection of Owen Street and Goen Avenue by the occupant of a motor vehicle as it was driving by.

Relatives said that the incident occurred around a little after 1:00am on Sunday. The man’s mother said that Samaroo had just returned home from operating his Route 40 minibus.

She said that Samaroo crossed Goen Avenue to speak to some friends who were sitting on the intersection before going home when a car, moving west on Owen Street, turned onto Goen Street and discharged three shots at Samaroo before speeding away.

Samaroo’s mother said that at first she feared the worst since she thought her son had been hit thrice. She was however relieved to find that only one of the bullets had pierced her son. Samaroo was rushed to the GPHC where he continues to receive medical treatment.

Police say that investigations into the shooting are ongoing.
