GDF dismisses officer implicated in robbery attempt

The Guyana Defence Force today said that Lieutenant Madainey Humphrey has been dismissed from the GDF following the conclusion of court martial proceedings against him  in relation to an alleged robbery attempt.

Humphrey was implicated in the alleged robbery attempt at the Julian Ross Landing, Region Seven in January this year.

The GDF in a release said that upon investigating the matter, it took the decision to court martial the lieutenant. The GDF said that he was found to have contravened a lawful command and to have breached the Force’s Standing Orders, charges to which he pleaded guilty. His sentence of dismissal was unanimous, the GDF said. He was represented by attorneys  Bernard DaSilva and Beverly Bishop.

On April 22, Humphrey appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer to the charge of robbery under arms. Humphrey, 25, of Tuschen Housing Scheme and Lance Corporal Felix Frank, 28, of Melanie Damishana are accused of robbing Kelly Williams of three pennyweights of raw gold valued $36,000, at Julian Ross Landing, Cuyuni in January while they were armed with one AK-47 rifle. The gold was the property of Almendo Da Silva. They were released on $300,000 bail each. The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.

The GDF reiterated in the release today that, it will not flinch in its “complete intolerance for indiscipline and will continue to hold its members accountable for any diversion from its Standing Operation Procedures.”
