A fire last evening destroyed a house at Surat Drive, Triumph, East Coast Demerara and fire fighters came in for heavy criticism for arriving on the scene without water.
A resident told this newspaper that the fire occurred sometime before 8 pm. The woman said that two fire tenders arrived on the scene.
Neither had water, she said, and they had to source some from the trench. Stabroek News was told that the trench is weed infested and that caused a delay in the water being source.
The resident said that when the fire fighters arrived the house was engulfed.
