No bail for guard accused of punching wife

A security guard who allegedly dealt his common-law wife cuffs about her face was yesterday remanded to prison.

Michael Reid, 27, denied the allegation that on June 3 he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Samantha Harris.  Magistrate Judy Latchman, who heard the case at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, was told that on the day in question, Reid dealt  Harris two cuffs to the left side of her face, causing bruising, which, according to the doctor, can result in disfigurement.

Reid, of Barrack Street, Kingston, was unrepresented by counsel but made an application for bail nonetheless.

Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt objected to bail on the grounds that the accused and the complainant reside in the same home and if bail is granted there is a likelihood that he would interfere with her and pervert the course of justice in the matter.

Bail was denied and Reid was remanded to prison until June 23, when the case will be called again.
