Post office apologises to senior citizens for pension wait

The Guyana Post Office Corporation yesterday apologized to senior citizens and customers in general for any inconvenience they experienced during the crowded pension days this week, a release from the post office stated.

The corporation says it remains committed towards facilitating the monthly encashment of public assistance, national insurance scheme payments and government old age pension at all post offices.

On Tuesday, large groups of pensioners endured hours of suffering in long lines to collect what many of them considered ‘pittances’.

Many expressed outrage and disgust about the humid temperatures and long lines they were faced with at the post offices.

A Partnership for National Unity had recently slammed various agencies for not having old age pensions ready on Saturday last. APNU had stated in a press statement that already poor and suffering old age pensioners braved inclement weather on Saturday and visited post offices to collect the  sum which is due to be paid on the first of every month.

However, they were told that post offices had no money to pay pensions and that they should return on Tuesday.
