Man held with cocaine at CJIA

A 41-year-old outgoing passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri was early this morning found with 2.2 kilogrammes of cocaine hidden in his suitcase, Customs and Anti-Narcotics head James Singh has confirmed.

Singh told Stabroek News that the male Guyanese was destined for the JFK International Airport and is in custody.

The man is expected to be charged shortly.

Last week Canadian national Johal Magnet was nabbed at the airport by police narcotics ranks with 2.615 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in the false bottom of his suitcase.

When he made his first court appearance the 41-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment and order to pay a $30,000 fine.
