Jazz, Wine and Words at Theatre Guild tomorrow

The Theatre Guild is set to come alive tomorrow night with performances by some of the best regional artistes in music and spoken word at the annual Jazz, Wine and Words show hosted by the Rotary Club of Stabroek, Georgetown.

According to a press release, the show will feature Paul Keens Douglas, renowned satirist, orator and story teller and the Desi Jones Quartet, one of the most popular and versatile jazz ensembles from Jamaica. The band will be accompanied by Karen Smith, a stalwart on the Jamaican and regional music circuit.

The Quartet is credited with making appearances at some of the major music festival sin the Region and across the world including,  the renowned Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, the St Lucia Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival.

The release also said that Smith is “easily Jamaica’s most versatile cabaret performer and jazz vocalists.” She has opened for major artists such as James Ingram, Natalie Cole and Harry Belafonte who describes her as “a wonderfully gifted artist.”

Patrons will also enjoy an offering of fine wines which will be served during the welcoming “wine hour” reception at 6pm to set the mood for the evening. “

Wine will be served again during the intermission along with cheese and grapes to tinker palates while the jazz performance brings the curtains down on what can be considered a splendid evening,” the release said.
