Two people shot, injured in Festival City home invasion

Gunmen last evening shot and wounded two persons after invading a house at Festival City and terrorizing the occupants in an apparent robbery.

George Grimes, 67, was shot in the left shoulder; his son Kevin Grimes, 36, was gun-butted and Ruth Rodney, 31, was shot in the abdomen. Up to press time last night they were in the emergency room of the Georgetown Public Hospi-tal.

Rodney’s condition was said to be serious.

The trio arrived at hospital around 20:20 hrs and were immediately rushed into the treatment room.

Dexter Fergus told Stabroek News outside the hospital that they were all watching something on a laptop computer when about three or four men barged into the Lot 1858 Nutmeg Street, Festival City house.

“These guys come in and draw their guns. About three or four of them,” he said before recalling that they started lashing him.

Based on what the visibly distraught Fergus said, at some point there was a scuffle during which shots were discharged. It was at this point that he made a dash for the back door.

He said the gunmen later managed to escape with his chain and the laptop computer.

Fergus wounded his foot during his escape.

Police were at the hospital and at the scene conducting investigations.
