President to address investment conference

President Donald Ramotar and the President of the Caribbean Development Bank Dr Warren Smith are to address an investment conference tomorrow.

The two-day conference at the  International Conference Centre, Liliendaal is being hosted by the Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana, David Devine and partners.

A release from the Canadian High Commission listed the objectives of the conference as follows:

  • To encourage greater foreign direct investment and enhance the ease of doing business in Guyana including through export credits.
  • To promote good governance by identifying areas where greater transparency, regulatory reform and enhanced enforcement is required.
  • To outline the impact of bribery and corruption on investment and discuss international best practices.
  • To identify the means to measure and report on initiatives recommended.

On day two, the conference will be addressed by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee and Francis Forbes, Executive Director, CARICOM IMPACS.

The release said that the conference is a collaboration with several partners including the High Commission of Canada, the Government of Guyana, the European Union, the US Embassy, the British High Commission, the United Nations Development Programme and the Inter-American Development Bank, REPSOL, Pacific Rubiales, the Private Sector Commission and the Beharry Group of Companies (specifically, GBTI and NAFICO) and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
