A man was yesterday accused of abusing his mother and threatening to kill her after he found her at home on Mother’s Day drinking with a male friend.
Mark Sealey, 41, was brought before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on charges that on May 27, he made use of threatening and abusive language to Esther Warner, his mother, at their Lot A and B Cemetery Road residence.
Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue told the court that the prosecution’s case is based on allegations that Warner and a male friend were at the house drinking when Sealey arrived and became annoyed and upset upon seeing them.
Rambajue said Sealey then unleashed a series of expletives and threatened to kill his mother.
Sealey, a dog food vendor, initially pleaded guilty to the charges but when the magistrate asked if he accepted the prosecution’s facts, he said, “It was Mother’s Day and they were drinking and I told them they could not do it. I just turned over the table. I did not threaten to kill her.”
As a result of the explanation, the magistrate recorded a not guilty plea for him.
Sealey was granted bail in the sum of $10, 000 on each charge and the case was adjourned to July 10, when it will be called at Court 10.
