Suriname-based man charged with death by dangerous driving

The 33-year-old man facing three charges in the death of Anniesha Persaud of Rose Hall Town on June 30 was on Wednesday slapped with a death by dangerous driving charge when he appeared in the Whim Magistrate’s Court.

The charge was read to Sarwan Kumar Outar of Suriname and formerly of Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice when he appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh. Outar was not required to plead to the charge and he was granted bail in the sum of $600,000.

On Tuesday last week, Outar had been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol above the legal limit; failure to render assistance to an injured person at an accident scene and failure to stop after an accident where injuries were caused.

He pleaded not guilty to those charges and was placed on $90, 000 bail. He was also ordered to lodge his passport with the court and to report to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court every Monday at 3pm.

The matter was transferred to the Whim Magistrate’s Court where Outar is scheduled to appear on July 15, 2013.
