Cabinet clears seven contracts in security sector – Luncheon

HPS and Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon announced that Cabinet had no objections to several contracts in five sectors including seven in the security sector and four for the supply of material and building of river and sea defence infrastructure.

Luncheon made this announcement at his post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President, a report from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.

According to Luncheon, at its July 11 meeting Cabinet offered no objections to a US$275,000 tender for the procurement of a 500hp work boat for the marine sector of the Guyana Police Force and a US$200,000 tender for the procurement of spares for the Guyana Defence force’s Bell 206 helicopter.

In addition, no objections were offered to a $70.6M contract for the construction of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) training facility at Leonora, West Coast Demerara (Phase Three) and a $25.7M contract for the procurement of two ambulances for the GFS.

A $51.8M contract for the construction of the Lusignan Prison court yard (Phase one); a $40.9M contract for the construction of the upper flat of the Brickdam Police Station lock-ups and a $39.7M contract for the construction of the brick prison at Lot 12 Camp Street (Phase two) were also given the go-ahead.

Luncheon also said no objections were offered for a tender valued $125.48M for the construction of 300 metres of rip-rap sea defence at Johanna Cecilia in Region Two. In addition, no objections were offered for a tender valued $104.9M for the construction of 260 metres of rip-rap sea defence at Zorg, Region Two; a $8.9M tender for the supply of material for sea and river defence works Lot1 and a $36.7M contract for the supply of material for sea and river defence works Lot 2, all in the public works sector.

In the education sector, a $63M tender for the supply and delivery of meals for the Cyril Potter College of Education was given the go-ahead, along with a $38M contract for the construction of the East Street Nursery School.  In the housing and water sector no objections were offered to a $1.06B tender for the construction of roads, drainage structures and the installation of pure water distribution network at Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara (Phase 2) – 7 lots.

Additionally, in the agriculture sector, an $18M contract for the rehabilitation of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority’s drainage pumps in Region six was green-lighted.
