Jailall Kissoon statement at Jack Warner rally evokes controversy

(Trinidad Express) Interim leader of the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) Jack Warner has apologised for the statements made at his meeting at New Settlement Recreational Ground, Chaguanas, on Tuesday night.
While Warner did not name the offender, it was speculated that his apology was directed to Guyanese-born Jailall Kissoon, who used racially charged statements during his contribution.
“As much as one may understand the attempt by the speaker to use vernacular with a view of reaching the people, the sobriquets used to describe the racial enclaves were definitely unacceptable and not consistent with the philosophy of the ILP,” Warner said in the release.

At one point during Kissoon’s speech, he noted that Warner was accused of “stealing money”, but said he did not steal money from East Indians or Africans but from “white people” and deemed that “payback”.
While Kissoon was making that statement he was abruptly called to wrap up and encouraged off the stage.
Warner apologised for any statement on his platform “which would have affected the sensitivities of the people of Trinidad and Tobago in general and Chaguanas West in particular”.
