Public servants benefit from evaluation training

About 38 persons from various sections of the public service yesterday graduated from a Ministry of Finance training and evaluation workshop which was aimed at strengthening their monitoring  and evaluation capacity.

The workshop, which started on Monday and ended yesterday, was held at the International Conference Centre Liliendaal and saw participants from the judiciary, health and education sectors among others. Training on building and designing results based framework, understanding the evaluation context and the theory of programme change, developing evaluation questions and starting the design matrix were some of the areas that were discussed.

It is expected that participants of the workshop will now be able to help track progress and demonstrate the impact of development projects, programmes and policies.

Tutoring was delivered by Dr Ray Rist from the International Programme for Development and Evaluation Training (IPDET), which is “an executive training program that aims to provide managers and practitioners with the generic tools required to evaluate development policies, programs, and projects at the local, national, regional, and global levels,” according to IPDET website.

Minister within the Ministry of Finance Juan Edghill told those in attendance that he hoped they would use the tool they have received effectively. He said he expects them to take what they have learned back to their ministries and agencies, so that it can benefit all. “Be agents of change. Let us move away from being just merely the clerk at the desk…,” he said.
