Ten parcels amounting to 11 kilos of cocaine was found in a bag in the baggage area. CANU head James Singh had told this newspaper that the bag was bound for New York. A plane was being prepared to leave the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri for JFK International Airport when the discovery was made.

Singh had explained that it was during routine checks that CANU investigators realised there was false information on the bag and that it did not belong to any of the travelling passengers.

He said that two persons – an employee with a company contracted by the airport to provide security services and an employee attached to a baggage handling company, were detained.

At press time last evening it was unclear if they were still being held.
