Employee shot during attempted robbery at Johnny P Supermarket

A man was shot to his abdomen last evening as gunmen tried to rob Johnny P Supermarket in South Ruimveldt Park.

Freddy Fernandes of Kitty was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was being treated up to press time.  It is not clear whether the men escaped with any cash or valuables.

A public-spirited citizen who took Fernandes to the hospital said that he was at home, a few blocks away, when he heard that gunmen went into the supermarket and discharged a round. The man said that since he does not live far away he went to the scene to investigate and that is when he found Fernandes clutching his abdomen.

The two other persons who were in the shop with him when the incident happened were too confused to react, the man stated.  On seeing this, the man said he took the injured Fernandes to the hospital.

A relative of the man who was at the hospital could not say what transpired but noted that Fernandes was one of the people who operated the business.
