The Berbice Bridge Company Inc. (BBCI) says it has taken the initiative to lower the toll charges for the following categories of vehicles listed below. Also Pick – Ups I 4 wheel/SUVs carrying trailers with pleasure craft I vehicles such as jet-skies, race cars or bikes; race horse bogies, where the trailers will be allowed free of charge. A release said that the towing vehicle will pay the toll charges as listed below. In addition, no freight will be charge for vehicle carrying pleasure I tourism goods such as coolers, barbecue grilles in the trays of Pick- Ups and SUV14-wheel drive.
The management of Berbice Bridge Company Inc says it has taken this decision as its initiative to boost tourism especially in the summer holiday season and part of emancipation promotions .This will run from August 01, 2013 at 8 am to August 12, 2013 at 8 am.
The toll for the 50-seater bus will drop from $12,800 to $9,000.
The toll for the 30-seater bus will be cut from $7,200 to $6,000.
Large trucks will see the toll slashed from $13,600 to $9,000.
Four-wheel drives, SUVs and pick-ups including those pulling boats will their toll cut from $4,000 to $3,000.
Civic groups and political parties have often complained that the Berbice tolls are too high and that ordinary Berbicians are under financial pressure as a result.
