Man in stolen shoes jailed for three years over larceny

Caldron Daly was on Wednesday sentenced to serve three years in prison for stealing clothing and other articles, including the sneakers he wore as he stood before the court.

Daly, 24, of Lot 23B East La Penitence, pleaded guilty when he was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge that between July 22 and July 23, at Alberttown, he stole a quantity of articles including, jerseys, jeans, a Motorola cell phone and $75,000 cash, all amounting to $160,500. The items were the property of Trevor Ford.

When given a chance to speak, Daly stated that the incident occurred while he was preparing to travel to Suriname. He added that Ford and others were with him while he was packing his clothing and they would have seen that he did not pack anything that did not belong to him. He added that it was only when he arrived at Springlands that he was informed by the police that he would be arrested for stealing.

Daly also stated that while at the police station he saw Ford, who admitted to him that he was knowingly framing him for the crime. “I asked Trevor why he is doing this to me and he said because I never went to jail and he wants me to face it because I am disrespectful,” he stated, while adding that the items that Ford claims were stolen were at home.

When Magistrate Ann McLennan asked Ford whether any of the stolen articles had been returned, he stated that they were not. He also pointed out that Daly was wearing a pair of sneakers that belonged to him.

Police prosecutor Deniro Jones reported that Daly had no antecedents and the Magistrate subsequently handed down the jail sentence.
