Odeen Ishmael to be accredited non-resident rep to Palestine

President Donald Ramotar on Thursday announced that Guyana will appoint Dr Odeen Ishmael, Ambassador to Kuwait as non-resident representative to the State of Palestine.

The Government Information Agency (GINA) said that the President made this announcement on Thursday during a courtesy call by Riad Al Malki, Foreign Affairs Minister of the State of Palestine.

Minister Riad Al Malki delivered brief remarks in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and members of the visiting delegation.

GINA quoted the Palestinian Minister as saying, “My main purpose of this visit is to extend our thanks and appreciation as Palestine, the Palestinian State, the leadership and the Palestinian people to Guyana, the President the people and the Government for their strong committed position in support of justice around the world, but also justice in Palestine.”

He extended an invitation to President Ramotar to visit Palestine.  GINA said that President Ramotar reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to Palestine and strong support for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Middle East.

It quoted the president as saying, “The Palestinian people deserve the same rights as people everywhere: to live in dignity, security, freedom and independence,

at peace with all their neighbours, and with the right to move freely within their homeland.”  The meeting also discussed the future development of relations between Guyana and the State of Palestine.
