Trial begins of accused in ‘09 Kaneville murder

A jury was yesterday empanelled to preside over the trial of Orpheus Johnson, who is accused of killing a Kaneville, East Bank Deme-rara (EBD), resident in 2009.

State prosecutor Natasha Backer is expected to open her case on Monday when the trial continues at the High Court, with Justice James Bovell-Drakes presiding over the proceedings.

Johnson is accused of shooting Brendon Charles to death.

It is alleged that between April 7 and 8, 2009, at Kaneville, Johnson murdered Charles, whose body was discovered in a yard several streets away from his Lot 914 Fourth Field, Kaneville home. The accused was 21 years old at the time of the crime and formerly resided at 13 First Street, Craig, EBD. He is represented by attorney Peter Hugh.
