North West man remanded over Kamboat armed robbery

One of the two suspects in the September 16 robbery at Kamboat Restaurant, Sheriff Street was yesterday remanded to prison after he was arraigned by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

Andel Anthony Forde, a 25-year-old father of six, was not required to plead to the indictable charges when they were read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. It was alleged that on September 16 at Sheriff Street, he robbed Narissa Hinckson of a BlackBerry Torch cellular phone valued $100,000.

The second charge against Forde, who said that he lives in the North West District, stated that on the same day he also allegedly robbed Stacy Benn of $20,320, property of Sarah Liu.

Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt told the court that on September 16 at around 2.15 am, Forde along with another man entered the Kamboat Restaurant, where Stacy Benn is employed as a cashier, and pulled out a gun. He further stated that the pair then demanded that Benn and the patrons in the restaurant surrender their cash and other valuable items.

Hunt said that after the duo committed the crime, they fled the scene but Forde was apprehended after being chased by the police. A .38 revolver along with the cell phone was recovered in the area. The other suspect is still at large according to the police.

The prosecutor added that Hinckson was attempting to purchase food from the restaurant when the crime was committed.

Hunt objected to bail based on the prevalence of the offence and the fact that a firearm was used while committing the crime.

The magistrate remanded Forde to prison until October 3 when his matter will be called again.
